- Composer and Choreographer
A member of the Ga tribe, Nii Armah was born in Teshie, a suburb of Ghana’s capital city, Accra. He developed an interest in traditional Ghanaian music and dance from an early age and embarked on a music and dance career. Under the instruction of Emmanuel Gomado, master drummer, dancer and director of the Odehe Dance Company, Nii Armah developed his skills and became the dance leader for the male members of the group.
Throughout his time with ‘Odehe’, Nii Armah performed throughout Ghana. He also taught school students, junior dancers and foreign visitors who participated in the Odehe Centre’s workshop programs. Nii Armah trained and performed with ‘Odehe’ until his departure from Ghana in 1999. He then spent 2½ years in Turkey, where he continued performing and teaching. He moved to Australia in 2002 and is now based in Brisbane, Queensland. |
